- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfinger cookies
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder for dusting
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan until warm, then slowly add it to the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
- Transfer the mixture back to the saucepan and cook over low heat until it thickens.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before folding in the heavy cream and mascarpone cheese.
- In a shallow dish, mix the brewed espresso with coffee liqueur.
- Dip each ladyfinger briefly into the espresso mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
