Simple Bolognese

A quick and healthy take on the classic Bolognese sauce using turkey bacon for a lighter meal option.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces turkey bacon
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 carrot diced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, cook the turkey bacon until crispy, then remove and chop.
  2. Add olive oil to the pan, and sauté onions, garlic, and carrot until softened.
  3. Stir in the ground turkey and cook until browned.
  4. Add the chopped turkey bacon, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes

  • This Bolognese can be served over whole wheat pasta for a healthier option.
  • Feel free to add additional vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini.
