Red Velvet Cream Cheese Recipe

A rich and moist red velvet cake topped with a creamy cheese frosting, perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and red food coloring.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Add the vinegar and mix for a few more seconds.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
  9. For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar until smooth.
  10. Once the cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.
  11. Serve and enjoy!
