My Favorite Classic Italian Tiramisu

A rich and creamy classic Italian dessert with a twist.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 12 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale.
  2. Add milk and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in mascarpone cheese.
  4. Combine cooled custard with whipped cream mixture.
  5. Dip ladyfingers into the coffee quickly, then layer in a baking dish.
  6. Spread half of the cream mixture over the ladyfingers.
  7. Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining cream mixture.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  9. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use high-quality coffee.
  • Experiment with flavored liqueurs in the coffee if desired.
